About Lynn Shearer

After a career in aviation I moved to a small cattle property near Lismore N.S.W. With time on my hands and a growing awareness of the complexities of nature and the nuances of light I was able to develop a long dormant dream of painting.
This was made easy by the beautiful local scenery. The disciplines of awareness – so essential in my previous career – now transferred easily to observation of landscape and the ever changing seasons.
I started to travel to the more remote and natural areas looking for that breathtaking untouched scene. I had lived and worked in the Territory during the 70’s and it stamped itself indelibly into my memory. It was a wonderful time of adventure in what now seems a different age. This experience now stood me in good stead for my new adventures.
On these pilgrimages I travel light, sleep under the stars and try to ‘go native’. You can be assured I jumped into that plunge pool after 2 hours of rock hopping. Likewise the birds in that dirty old billabong didn’t come from a nature book.I look for hard, raw country and my paintings don’t originate in a tourist brochure.
I believe that I become part of the country – infused with its rhythms. I see and feel things that many people don’t. This is when those great paintings originate. An energy happens.
I am basically a self taught artist mainly specializing in traditional landscapes. I have been a successful exhibitor in the Northern Rivers and further afield for many years. Painting is a wonderful pastime for me and every day brings great new excitement and anticipation. I hope that you can see in these paintings some of what inspired me to paint them.
